WHAT IS ART THERAPY?
Art has been a way for humans to connect, express and understand since our existence. Art therapy can use art as a way to connect to one’s psyche, whether that is by practicing mindfulness or expressing what words can not.
Art Therapists are masters level, trained mental health professionals who use art as a way of exploring thoughts, feelings and emotions in therapy. Art Therapists practice in a multitude of settings including private practice, residential center, hospitals, community centers and more.
HISTORICAL TRAUMA
Historical Trauma is the emotional, cultural, and/or spiritual injury caused by distressing mass events within a society. Some of these distressing mass events can include but are not limited to genocide, slavery, natural disasters and colonization. Typically the traumatic event continues to shape norms both socially and culturally within a community.
Historical Healing prioritizes caring to these injuries as those needs are presented through our emotional, mental, physical and community bodies.
Historical Healing is able to offer sliding scale cost options to clients. In order to supplement the labor wage lost, we rely on support from our community. Thank you for sharing what you can.
